Floods can have different causes but essentially depend on three different factors: how wet the ground is, rainfall and water levels. It is a combination of these conditions that determine the chance of a flood happening.
In this activity you will press a button to randomly mix pictures representing the different conditions that can lead to a flood. Pushing the button again makes a selection and you can guess if a flood happened or not. A second button reveals whether or not the guess is right.
This activity will help you learn that:
- floods occur when the right conditions align
- these conditions must be present for a flood to occur
- there are different sets of conditions that can lead to flooding
